451° – A Bulwark Film

Thrilled to share a project I finished earlier this year with MassiveMusic for Bulwark, which I’m happy to report will be featured at The Cannes Film Festival in a few weeks.

I recommend reading about the whole thing on their site, as they’re much more eloquent about it than I.  But, as a crude summation of the whole thing: Jeff Nishinaka, a paper sculptor, was commissioned to make an intricately detailed, giant industrial complex complete with work belts and huge electrical towers and all that.  After eight months of working on this thing, they took it to a rock quarry, lit it on fire, and made him watch.  The message of course is that you can become very, very attached to something, and that it can go up in smoke in a second.  Include the baldly worded tagline “Because People Aren’t Fireproof,” and you get a pretty powerful statement explaining the mission of Bulwark Flame-Resistant Apparel.

The entire documentary can be found here, with a New York Times article explaining the significance of Bulwark’s unusual marketing strategy here.  But included below is the meat and potatoes of the project (IE: when they burn it to the ground), which includes my musical contribution.

Lulcullan

Happy to share a short film I finished a little while back for Lulcullan Foods entitled L’appetit mort, directed by the wonderful Christina Burchard.   Special thanks to Mr. Pig.

LUCULLAN FOODS: L’appetit mort

“The Protagonist:” now in paper form.

Happy to say that, if you were so inclined, you are now able to purchase the sheet music to my piece The Protagonist from Waterton Brass Music HERE.  They put a fancy cover on it and everything.

Adele

And here’s an epic orchestral cue that I wrote after learning the chord changes to that Adele song that makes everyone cry.

“The Protagonist”

Happy to say that The Protagonist has been released today on iTunes on da Capo Brass’ first album From The Beginning.

Give it a listen, I’d love to hear what you think.  (And, ahem, you could even rate it and tell the rest of iTunes how great it is.)
  • From The Beginning can be found HERE. (The Protagonist is track 12-15, but you should listen to the whole thing.)
  • da Capo Brass can be found HERE.
  • And on this very site you can read the program notes for this piece HERE.

And a Happy New Year. How about some updates?

To everyone, I hope that 2011 was good to you and that 2012 will be even better.  It’s been a strange and wonderful year for me personally, and I’m happy to say that many of the projects in which I’ve become involved are starting to get legs.  But, in case you missed it, let’s review:

  • Robotic Raptor has had a good year of growth and we look forward to the completion of our newest and most ambitious project within the next few weeks.  In the past year we completed a few of our own productions including 127 Minutes, Two, One, Two and Jumper before we started work on our most recent short.  Between that we teamed up with the Radio Happy Hour team again for a web-series called Geocachers, as well as a few interesting commercial projects.
  • A 4-movement brass quintet of mine entitled The Protagonist, which was commissioned in 2010 by da Capo Brass, will be released on their album From The Beginning by Delos/Naxos on January 3rd on iTunes.
  • Scores of mine from recent short films such as The Dentist, Mommy Wars and some incidental music for inDmusic have been making the rounds and I’m happy to say are doing very well!
  • I’m happy to say that I’ve started a great opportunity working with the team at MassiveMusic in Union Square.  With any luck, I’ll be useful within the year.

So here’s to 2012.  Look for more from us all in the very near future.  And shut up, Mayans!

This… is Geocachers.

We at Robotic Raptor Studios partnered up with the Radio Happy Hour kids again.  Check out our newest project, “Geocachers.”
